The Regional Operational Programme of “Crete and the Aegean Islands” was prepared under the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) for the programming period 2007-2013.

It represents one of the five (5) Regional Operational Programmes, which, together with the eight (8) Sectoral and the twelve (12) European Territorial Cooperation Programmes make up NSRF 2007-2013.

The geographical area for the application of the ROP is the Territorial Section “Crete and the Aegean Islands”. Operationally, this geographic unit creates an island area that consists of over 90 islands (small, medium, large) while in terms of administration it includes three Regions: the island of Crete, the South Aegean Sea and the North Aegean Sea. Being an insular territorial section it is characterized by problems – particularities and opportunities – possibilities that create a complex development environment at both the European and the Mediterranean level.

The Regional Operational Programme “Crete and the Aegean Islands” expresses the development planning of the respective territorial section during the programming period 2007 – 2013 and includes the development strategy of the territorial section, the general and specific objectives as well as the secondary interventions and implementation means.
